Unique honeycomb core presented at the JEC Show Paris

EconCore was presenting during the JEC Show Paris on March 24 to 26, 2009 a thermoplastic honeycomb with a cell size of only 5 mm. Until today such small cell sizes are only known for high performance aerospace applications. A small cell size allows minimal weight and good surface quality in thin sandwich components with a minimal skin thickness. With conventional honeycomb manufacturing methods costs increase significantly at smaller cell sizes. The outstanding production efficiency of EconCore´s patented ThermHex technology enables now to produce Polypropylene (PP) honeycomb cores in 5 mm thickness with small cell sizes. Besides our PP-honeycombs EconCore was also presenting honeycombs made from many other polymers e.g. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), Polycarbonate (PC), flame retardant thermoplastics like Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS). The TorHex (paper honeycomb) and ThermHex (thermoplastic honeycomb) technologies enable the in-line production of lightweight, cost-efficient honeycomb sandwich panels, making honeycomb cores the best choice for many applications. For specific material combinations and large volume applications EconCore offers licenses and engineering to integrate those technologies to in-line panel production lines.
